Dr. Marga F. Massey

Marga F. Massey, MD, CLT, FACS is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon and Founder of the Dr. Marga Practice Group. Within the setting of this multi-state microsurgical reconstructive practice, Dr. Massey provides the most sophisticated forms of reconstruction available to patients undergoing care for cancer. Dr. Massey is proficient in a variety of perforator flap breast reconstructive procedures including DIEP, SIEA, GAP, TUG, ICP and TDAP. As one of the few women in the United States fully dedicated to microsurgical perforator flap reconstruction, Dr. Massey has established care centers in Charleston, SC, Chicago, IL, New Orleans, LA and Salt Lake City, UT as a means to bring these sophisticated surgical techniques to women nationwide with a focus on efficacy, safety, and cost containment. Further, Dr. Massey is a pioneer in the field of Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer for the treatment of primary and secondary lymphedema. As a collaborator with Dr. Corinne Becker, Dr. Massey has traveled to Paris, France, Cairo, Egypt and Fortaleza, Brazil to supplement her training in this specialized field of oncologic care.

Dr. Massey is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and is a leader in defining the standards of care for breast reconstruction nationally. Dr. Massey completed her undergraduate and medical degrees at Duke University. Dr. Massey was funded as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow as a part of her medical training. Dr. Massey completed her General Surgical Training at Duke University before completing her Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Post Graduate Education under Stephen J. Mathes, MD at the University of California in San Francisco and Harry J. Buncke, MD at The Buncke Clinic. Dr. Massey has completed a microsurgical breast reconstruction fellowship with Dr. Robert J. Allen, Sr. Dr. Massey is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and has served on a variety of leadership committees affecting care and educational standards of Plastic Surgery internationally.

Dr. Massey is the Founder of the National Institute of Lymphology- a consortium of health care providers dedicated to defining evidence-based Best Practices of Lymphedema Care in the United States.
